Courtney Love Cries After Being Cleared In Three Court Cases

Courtney Love

Courtney Love broke down in court of Monday when a judge dismissed three misdemeanor cases and terminated her probation.

This was the first probably the first non-controversial thing to happen to Love in a courtroom in years. The former Hole frontwoman has been in and out of courts and rehab constantly for the last six years and now the end is here, for now anyway.

"Thank you for not taking me into custody," a tearful Love said to Superior Court Judge Rand Rubin. "Thank you for giving me an opportunity. You've been a good, fair judge. Sorry for crying."

Love came to court with her manager, Peter Asher, and lawyer Howard Weitzman. The three charges were for illegal possession of painkillers, being under the influence of a controlled substance in public and assault and battery.

Musician Kristin King also appeared in court with her lawyer to try to extend a protective order against Love. Love pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in February 2005 for attacking King, paid a fine and was given three years probation. When she was charged with the three misdemeanors, she violated that probation and landed in rehab for 180 days in September 2005.

In the end, Rubin dismissed the protective order, saying he had "a feeling they will stay away from each other."

"Early on in this case, Ms. Love, I think you came close to coming into custody," Rubin said. "I think you've done very well. You've shown me you are interested in a much less destructive lifestyle."
