Radiohead Songs Premiere On Basement Tapes

Although their new album is expected sometime in 2007, Radiohead fans can get a glimpse into the new album through a new website entitled From The Basement. The page launched Monday and will feature a music series highlighted by "the most intimate live performances from the finest musicians on the planet."
The first episode, which is available through the site as well as through iTunes, contains performances from Radiohead's Thom Yorke on piano as well as performances from The White Stripes. Also included is a collaboration between Four Tet's Kieran Hebden and drummer Steve Reid. The episode was filmed at the Maida Vale studios in London with producer Nigel Godrich at the helm. There is no word as to whether the series will be updated on a weekly or monthly basis.
Yorke performs two new songs during the episode, including "Videotape" and "Down Is The New Up." "'Videotape' I was very proud of," Yorke posted on Radiohead's website. "And it doesn't sound like the version that we are working on now... which is even better... they are sketches obviously just me on the piano." Yorke's solo performance was recorded prior to the release of his solo album "The Eraser" earlier this year.
In related news, Yorke is posting a string of remixes from "The Eraser" on the album's website. "I got excited," he said in a posting last week. "I've been listening through. I mean. There's some freaky shit." The first was Surgeon's remix of "The Clock. "He has turned it into something really hard. And disco," Yorke says of the remix. A second remix has also been added, a "deranged twist" of "Analyse" by Various Productions.
Radiohead are currently taking a break from recording their new album and will return to the studio in January. The band toured North America earlier this year and showcased some new material, including two shows at Toronto's Hummingbird Centre.
