Gwen Stefani Makes Fans Scream At Much

Gwen Stefani descended on MuchMusic headquarters on Tuesday night for a one-hour Live@Much special and talked about babies, sewing and The Sound Of Music.
Stefani was in Toronto to promote her second solo album, The Sweet Escape, and enticed fans with talk of a possible No Doubt reunion. Dressed as a modern day moll — complete with a dress shirt and black tie, chunky gold diamond-studded necklace and spiked heels — Stefani beamed while young girls wearing LAMB sweaters and track pants and bleached blond hair squealed for her to sign copies of Love.Angel.Music.Baby.
Having just completed the vocals for The Sweet Escape four weeks ago, the singer compared it to her debut.
"The last record... was me trying to be a little more like a creative writer and not be so deep and just have fun and be a little more surface, and I think naturally I just tend to write this way and I didn't really have a direction this time," said Stefani.
"I just went in and did [The Sweet Escape]. It's very modern. It's really right out of the oven."
The singer is already gearing up for a world tour, which she promised will include Canada, during which she'll have her baby Kingston in tow.
"I'm looking forward to going back on tour with Kingston on the outside, which will be really nice," said Stefani.
"I am excited because like last time I didn't really feel like I was myself... and this time I can feel free to be able to have the two albums and really put a show together. It's really weird. With No Doubt, we went on the greatest hits tour and every single song is like a single. And now we have two albums to pick from."
The first single from The Sweet Escape, "Wind It Up," features Stefani yodelling a la Julie Andrews, and she even compared herself to Andrews' character in The Sound Of Music.
"She's a nice Catholic girl that likes to sing and sew clothes. It's very similar, and now I have one of my first babies, you know, so we have a lot in common."
While some fans yelled for Stefani to yodel, what seemed to get them most excited was mention about a possible No Doubt reunion.
"I look forward to that chemistry again, and seeing what we would do next," said Stefani. "It's hard to picture it, you know?"
No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal helped out on Stefani's debut album and wrote three tracks for The Sweet Escape. Asked what it would be like to go back to the group dynamic, Stefani said, "I don't know what kind of music we would make together and I don't know what it would be like."
The Sweet Escape hits record store shelves on Dec 5.
