Canadian Idol Eva Avila Goes Somewhere Else On Debut

Eva Avila

After hammering you over the head with Eva Avila updates through August and September, we let the Canadian Idol winner take a breather and record her debut album. Well, she finished it. So here we go again.

Avila's Somewhere Else will arrive in stores on Tuesday via Sony BMG. The young woman, who showed that she could handle pop, R&B, Latin and soul songs on the show, has incorporated those elements into the album.

"I hope it will give people a clearer idea of what I am and a sense of where I'm going as an artist," the Gatineau, Quebec singer says. "I think this album shows off all the different sides of my personality."

The disc was primarily produced by Rob Wells — the guy who's previously worked with the Backstreet Boys and Nick Lachey — not Robb Wells, who plays Ricky on Trailer Park Boys.Avila collaborated with a number of other people on the disc, including Idol guest stars Chantal Kreviazuk ("Meant To Fly") and Cyndi Lauper ("This Kind Of Love"), as well as songwriters Kara DioGuardi (Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson), Christopher Ward (Hilary Duff, Amanda Marshall) and the Stargate team of Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen (Beyonce, Nelly).

The first single is the Latin-tinged, club-friendly "I Owe It All To You."

"It is the type of song that clicks with everyone," says Avila, a recent addition to the Ford Models roster. "We've all had those moments when we feel so grateful to someone for what they have done for us and feel the need to reach out to give them thanks."

Avila will sing the national anthem before the Grey Cup game in Winnipeg on Nov. 19. She'll embark on a Canadian tour in support of her album early next year.
