Bloc Party Drummer Suffers Collapsed Lung After Concert

Bloc Party drummer Matt Tong suffered a collapsed lung following a concert in Atlanta on Thursday night.
"Doctors at the hospital in Atlanta say Matt is in a comfortable condition and not in any danger, he will however be staying in hospital for at least the next three days for observation and it's not clear at this stage when Matt will be fit to resume performing," said a message posted Friday on the London, England band's website.
It hasn't been confirmed how Tong was stricken with the problem, but a spokeswoman for the band told Dotmusic that it may have occurred during the group's performance.
"Matt is known for his energetic drumming style," she said.
Bloc Party, Jack's Mannequin and Panic! At The Disco are in the midst of a North American tour, and Tong's ailment forced Bloc Party to cancel its appearances at the Cricket Arena in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, the Patriot Centre in Washington, D.C. on Saturday and Madison Square Garden in New York City on Nov. 13 and 14.
It's hoped that Tong will recover in time to allow Bloc Party to play Toronto's Ricoh Coliseum on Nov. 16. The only other Canadian date on the tour is Dec. 2 at Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum.
A Weekend In The City, the follow-up to Bloc Party's 2005 Mercury Prize-nominated Silent Alarm debut, will be released on Feb. 6.
