Two New Songs On U2 Best-Of, And 3-D Film Coming Next Year

U2 haven't slowed down in 26 years, and it doesn't look like they're going to any time soon. The Irish rock icons will release another best-of compilation on November 21 and a 3-D concert film of their Vertigo Tour next summer or fall.

U218 Singles will be the first single-disc collection to span the band's career from their 1980 Boy full-length debut to their most recent album, 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The Universal compilation will feature 16 classic hits, including "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "One," "Mysterious Ways" and "With Or Without You."

Two new tracks, recorded recently at Abbey Road Studios in London, England with producer Rick Rubin (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run DMC, Johnny Cash), will also be included: "Window In The Skies" and the Green Day collaborative cover of The Skids' "The Saints Are Coming." The bands performed the song together at the re-opening of the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans in September.

"The Saints Are Coming" is now available as a digital download and a CD single will be released on November 7. Proceeds from sales of the song will benefit a charity called Music Rising that U2 guitarist The Edge, Canadian producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitars chairman Henry Juskiewicz set up to help musicians who were affected by Hurricane Katrina last year.

U218 Singles will be released on CD, vinyl and as a full-length DVD featuring the videos for the songs. It will also be available as a limited-edition CD with a bonus DVD featuring 10 tracks recorded live in Milan, Italy last year.

Film directors Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington and 3-D director of photography Peter Anderson used nine specialized cameras to shoot more than 700 hours of footage of U2 in seven South American cities in February and March. Tom Krueger was the film's 2-D director of cinematography.

The project is being produced by 3ality Digital Entertainment and edited by Olivier Wiki in New York. The soundtrack is being produced by Carl Glanville, who previously produced the Vertigo 2005/U2 Live From Chicago concert DVD.
