Eleni Mandell's Miracle Of Five Coming In February

Eleni Mandell

Los Angeles singer/songwriter Eleni Mandell is somewhat inexplicably calling her sixth album Miracle Of Five.

The record, due on February 6, will be released by Toronto-based Zedtone Records in North America and V2 in Europe, Australia and Japan. It follows 2004's Afternoon, which earned Mandell the "best local singer" title from Los Angeles magazine.

Miracle Of Five features Mandell's longtime rhythm section of drummer Kevin Fitzgerald and bassist Ryan Feves as well as a slew of talented guest artists, including Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, X drummer DJ Bonebrake (who plays vibes on the album), reed player Jeff Turmes (Badly Drawn Boy) and keyboardist Andy Kaulkin (Merle Haggard, R.L. Burnside), who also produced the album. Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) mixed the disc.

Mandell — a University Of California Berkeley art graduate who lists X, Tom Waits, Chuck E. Weiss, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald, Tammy Wynette, Ray Charles and author Charles Bukowski among her influences — self-financed and recorded her 1999 Wishbone debut album with producer Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright). In addition to her five previous full-lengths, she's put out an EP and two vinyl singles and has contributed to a number of soundtracks.
