Stereophonics Work On New Album And DVD

Stereophonics

After releasing their Live From Dakota album and DVD earlier this year, Welsh rock trio Stereophonics are hard at work on studio album number six, the follow-up to 2005's Language.Sex.Violence.Other?

According to a message from lead singer/guitarist Kelly Jones posted on the band's website last Friday, the group have decided on the final 12 songs for the as-yet untitled album. "We've been generally doing two weeks on and then a week off in between sessions," Jones wrote. "As I said before, we are still enjoying working on new ways to make the record sound and having the luxury of time to do it."

The group spent last month at Real World Studios in Bath, England, where they recorded portions of their 1997 Word Gets Around debut and 1999's Performance And Cocktails. Jones says the album should be out through V2 sometime in mid-to-late 2007. Although no track titles have been revealed, the songs seem to fit the typical Stereophonics mold with "pretty big choruses." The band will celebrate their 10th anniversary early next year by releasing a DVD titled Rewind. The package includes a 90-minute film by documentary filmmaker Danny O'Connor along with two hours of bonus features and extras. Some of these include live tracks culled from the last decade and footage from tracks found on Live From Dakota. The DVD will also feature a road movie filmed during the band's acoustic tour in support of 2001's Just Enough Education To Perform album.

Jones also decided to drop the guitar and pen temporarily last month for the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles. "I've written a short film, which I'm trying to develop," he wrote in an earlier posting.

"I will be shooting a read-through scene out there with Dougray Scott, a fan and friend of mine for a number of years."

Scott is perhaps best known for his role as Ian Kavanaugh on ABC's Desperate Housewives.
