Neil Young Lives With War Again And Goes Through Archives

Neil Young

Neil Young will try to wring some more life out of his Living With War album by releasing a version featuring different mixes from what appeared on the original earlier this year.

The new edition of the record, Living With War — Raw, will more accurately represent the live in-studio performances by Young, bassist Rick Rosas and drummer Chad Cromwell without the overdubs and backing vocals that were added later.

Reprise will make it available through iTunes on Nov. 7, while physical copies will arrive in stores on December 19.The CD version of the album will come with a bonus DVD featuring Young-directed video clips for each song. They include footage of the war in Iraq, American anti-war demonstrations and the Al Gore documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. The videos for "After The Garden," "Families," "Lookin' For A Leader" and "America The Beautiful" will be available through iTunes.

Young is also rolling out the first release in his long-promised Archives Performance series, with the Live At The Fillmore East 1970 CD slated for a Nov. 14 release via Reprise. The album will include six songs from Young and Crazy Horse's March 6 and 7, 1970 concerts at the New York City venue. The CD/DVD version will feature a high-resolution audio mix, photos from the shows, handwritten song lyrics and press clippings.

Crazy Horse at that time included Young, bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina and now deceased guitarist Danny Whitten. Producer Jack Nitzsche sat in on electric piano for the Fillmore performances, which included such songs as "Cinnamon Girl," "Cowgirl In The Sand," "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere," "On The Way Home" and "Broken Arrow."

Young will host his 20th annual Bridge School Benefit outside San Francisco this weekend. Among the performers scheduled to join him are Pearl Jam, Trent Reznor, Brian Wilson, Death Cab For Cutie and Foo Fighters.
