Jimmy Chamberlin Gets Spacey In Smashing Pumpkins' Album Update

Smashing Pumpkins

Could the Smashing Pumpkins' forthcoming album be another Chinese Democracy?

Much like Guns N' Roses' long-awaited, mystery-shrouded album (which is finally due out next month, Axl Rose continues to insist, after numerous delays) mentioned above, the Pumpkins continue to hint at making progress with a new record, but remain vague as to what they're doing.

The band's MySpace blog now includes "Love Letters" addressed to fans by drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. These letters say that the band have been working with producers Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Darkness, The Cars) and Terry Date (Pantera, Soundgarden, Deftones), and that Chamberlin has been busy laying down drum tracks.

The posts are also written in an oddly spiritual manner, further adding to their mystery. Take this, for example:

"It's all part of one big cosmic journey, in so that everyone reading this is hitching their silver chord to the Great Pumpkin Space Train! Hope this helps clear some things up for you."

It really doesn't, but thanks for trying.

Chamberlin first announced that he was joining Billy Corgan to reform the band last year. Corgan had taken out a full-page ad in various Chicago newspapers stating his desire to have "his band" back.
