Iggy Pop and his reconstituted band, The Stooges, have been making progress on their first new album since 1973's Raw Power at producer Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio in Chicago.

The still untitled new album, which will be released by Virgin next year, will feature Pop on vocals, Mike Watt on bass, Scott Asheton on drums and Ron Asheton on guitar. Watt, the founder of southern California-based bands The Minutemen and Firehose, just moved into a new apartment in the Stooges' hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He's been keeping fans up to date on the record's progress via in-depth reports on his website.

Among the songs the band are recording for the album are "Trollin'," "Greedy Awful People," "Claustrophobia," "Mexican Guy," "I'm Fried," "ATM," "O Solo Mio," "She Took My Money" and "End Of Christianity," which Brendan Benson may add vocals to.

The new-look Stooges have been playing select one-off shows since 2003, and will appear at the U.K.'s Thurston Moore-curated Nightmare Before Christmas festival in December. If you're interested in finding more about what life is like on the road with these rock veterans, they have a very amusing concert rider that lists their backstage needs and wants.
