Fans hoping to have Good Charlotte's fourth album in their hands before Christmas are out of luck, as it won't be ready until early next year.
"We don't really feel the need to rush," says singer Joel Madden. "We just want it to be right and, as time has gone on and things have developed, we feel the need to spend more time to make it exactly the way we want it."
A lot of the songs on the still untitled Epic/Daylight album will be about relationships, both good and bad. Among the tracks destined to appear on the record are "Misery" and "Victims Of Love."
The band are recording the album with Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Pearl Jam), who produced Good Charlotte's self-titled debut. They went through some 40 demos before they brought Gilmore in, and have kept three of those songs for the LP.
Both Joel and his brother Benji have been DJing events and parties during their downtime from Good Charlotte, and Benji says that's influenced the band's sound.
"I think we're both really getting into watching people move to music. As a result, this record is a lot dancier than anything we've ever done."
No guests are expected to appear on the album, as the Maddens and guitarist Billy Martin and bassist Paul Thomas expect to handle most things among themselves. One person who definitely won't be involved in the record is former drummer Chris Wilson, who left the band last year. He attacks his old bandmates on his MySpace blog, claiming mistreatment.
"Why don't you start telling the kids about how I never made one cent off of any merch, cd's, dvd's, royalties(of songs I played on), publishing(songs I played on) or TV performances(in which I signed contracts stating exactly how much I was supposed to recieve)," Wilson writes.
"Where did it go? Why do you still blow me off and never return phone calls? Why have I been trying for a year to get my gear back(4 drum sets, wardrobe case, cymbals, etc.) with no assistance from you at all."
Wilson goes on to call the Maddens "two of the most egotisical, self centered, back stabbing, corrupted individual's who are filled with broken promises," and says that money meant more to them than his friendship.
"I loved you guys with all my heart and would have done anything for your band, but yet you took advantage of me at my weakest. You got me to sign a contract, that pretty much fucked me out of anything... I live in a fucking van, you live in mansions!"
Good Charlotte are touring this fall, and will play The Guvernment in Toronto on Oct. 24.
