Loose Ends: Paris Hilton Charged, Aaron Carter's Not Engaged And True North Signs Hunter Valentine

Paris Hilton, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol earlier this month, has now been charged with the crime.

The heiress/singer/celebrity's blood-alcohol level of 0.08 per cent when she was arrested on Sept. 7 was enough to earn the charge after an investigation. A court hearing was scheduled for Thursday, though Hilton didn't have to appear in person. If found guilty, she faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail.

A week after singer/actor Aaron Carter proposed on a Las Vegas stage to girlfriend and former Playboy Playmate Kari Ann Peniche, the engagement has been called off. The two remain friends, but are apparently going their own ways. Eighteen-year-old Carter insists that the proposal wasn't a publicity stunt to try and draw attention to his upcoming reality television series, House Of Carters.

"I acted off of impulse instead of really thinking through my decision," he told The ShowBuzz website. "Now I know what not to do."

True North Records has signed Toronto alt.rock, all-female trio, Hunter Valentine. Singer/guitarist Kiyomi McCloskey, bassist Adrienne Lloyd and drummer Laura Petracca released an independent EP produced by Ian Blurton (C'Mon, Amy Millan, Weakerthans) last year. Their full-length debut should be released by True North early next year.
