U2 Working With Rick Rubin And Green Day

U2

U2 are in the studio working on material for their next album with producer Rick Rubin.

It's the band's first collaboration with Rubin, an industry veteran who has worked with the likes of Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers and numerous others.

U2 also announced on their website that Green Day will join them to lay down a cover of The Skids' 1978 track, "The Saints Are Coming." Proceeds from the song will benefit Music Rising, the non-profit organization founded by U2 guitarist The Edge to help replace musical instruments that were lost last year in Hurricane Katrina.

Green Day confirmed the collaboration on their own website, saying, "One year later, the devastation is still fresh in our minds, and we'd like to keep it in yours. New Orleans has always been a special city to us, being a hotbed of music and creativity, and it's hard to believe parts of the [Gulf of Mexico] region still remain devastated. We feel that it's important to continue to raise awareness."

According to Green Day, U2 approached them about working on the song, and the two bands will meet up soon to begin recording. It's not clear when or how the track will be released. In other U2 news, the band's 1994 VHS release, Zoo TV — Live From Sydney, will be reissued on DVD on September 19 by Island/UME. The concert recording will be available as a single-disc version and a double-disc package with a number of extras.

The main DVD will feature 23 songs, with emphasis on tracks from 1993's Zooropa, including "Lemon," "Numb" and "Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car." It will also showcase plenty of more vintage material, with tracks like "New Year's Day," "Angel Of Harlem" and "Pride (In The Name Of Love)."

The bonus disc will feature previously unreleased performances of "Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World" and "Desire" (both taken live from the Zoo TV Special at Yankee Stadium in New York City on August 29 and 30, 1992), as well as "The Fly" and "Even Better Than The Real Thing" (both taken live from the Stop Sellafield Concert at the G-Mex Centre in Manchester, England on June 19, 1992). It will also feature three documentaries (A Fistful Of Zoo TV, Zoo TV — The Inside Story and Trabantland), a karaoke version of "Numb" and something called "Video Confessional."
