Paris Hilton Gets Arrested And Punked

Paris Hilton

It hasn't been such a hot week for Paris Hilton.

The multi-functional (to use multi-talented would be pushing it) hotel heiress was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

"The officers observed that she exhibited the symptoms of intoxication," Robert Andreno of the Los Angeles Police Department told MTV News. "The vehicle was driving erratically and they conducted a field sobriety test at the scene and the officers determined she was driving under the influence."

The 25-year-old was driving her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren when she was pulled over. Her friend Kimberly Stewart, the daughter of rocker turned crooner Rod Stewart, was a passenger.

Hilton was released on her own recognizance around 2 a.m. and was met by her sister, Nicky Hilton, Nicky's boyfriend Kevin Connolly (who appears in the Entourage television series) and spokesman Elliot Mintz.

Mintz told reporters that Hilton was up at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday to shoot a video for a song from her recently released Paris debut album and then went to a charity event in Hollywood that evening where she had a margarita without eating dinner. He said that she may have been more affected by the single drink because she had an empty stomach after a tiring full day's work.

Mintz added that his client regretted the arrest and won't decide if she'll contest the charge until consulting her lawyers. If convicted, she could receive three months' probation, be ordered to enter an alcohol program and have her licence restricted for 90 days.

On the other side of the world in England, Hilton's album was subjected to an ingenious prank by noted guerilla artist Banksy and Gnarls Barkley member and producer, Danger Mouse. The duo managed to access 500 copies of Paris and alter the sleeve photos and liner notes while replacing the CD with a 40-minute Danger Mouse remix of the disc, which was given fake song titles including "Why Am I Famous?," "What Have I Done?" and "What Am I For?". The bogus LPs made it on to shelves to be sold at 48 British record stores.

A three-minute excerpt of Danger Mouse's work, which includes a number of Hilton quotes over a dance beat, can be heard in conjunction with video clips of Banksy's handiwork on YouTube.

"It's hard to improve on perfection but it's worth a try," it says of the Paris remix on Banksy's website, which also features an doctored photo of Hilton accompanied by: "Every CD you buy puts me even further out of your league."
