Dave Grohl Becomes A Lick On New Juliette Lewis Disc

Juliette And The Licks with Dave Grohl

Actress Juliette Lewis has found more success in the music industry than many of her counterparts. The 33-year-old singer and her band, The Licks, have lingered long enough to produce a second album, Four On The Floor, which is due for an Oct. 2 release in the U.K. and Europe.

Juliette And The Licks hooked up with Foo Fighter Dave Grohl on tour, and the former Nirvana drummer agreed to collaborate on five demo recordings at his 606 studio following the departure of drummer Jason Morris from The Licks. But things went so well that Grohl ended up playing on the entire album.

"Dave agreed to play on the whole thing and we knew that this was going to be something special," explains guitarist Todd Morse in the band's MySpace blog. "We ended up writing a total of 20 songs!

"I've never seen Juliette so inspired. Her lyrics and melodies are stuck in my brain as I write this."

In March, the band entered Henson Studios in Hollywood with the production team of Dylan McLaren and Sid Riggs and recorded in the same room where "We Are The World" came to fruition. Grohl laid down drum tracks for 14 songs in three apparently mirth-filled days.

"I really feel like this will be her best performance on record ever," Morse writes of Lewis. "I may be biased, but I've been a musician long enough to know when something has reached another level."

Four On The Floor's first single, "Hot Kiss," is set for a Sept. 25 release and will include some B-sides. No date has been set for a North American release of the single or album, as the band are still searching for a label and distribution. Lewis is hopeful, though, that the LP will see our shores early next year.

"If all things go according to plan," she speculates in the band's blog, "we will release Four On The Floor beginning of 2007 with some bonus tracks and some wild Licks on the road footage with videos and stuff. We're making a Lickumentary!"

If you don't want to order the album as an import, but still want to check out some new tunes, "Hot Kiss" and "Killer" can be heard on the group's MySpace page. The video for "Hot Kiss" is also on the site.

Juliette Lewis And The Licks are touring Europe throughout the fall, but no North American dates have been scheduled.
