Pedal Power Propels The Bicycles Back On Top

The battle at the top of the chart continues for a sixth straight week, as yet another album falls out of the top spot. This is the first time in the 10-year history of the weekly top 50 chart that there have been five changes at #1 in five consecutive weeks. This time, rather than a new album moving into the top spot, it's one that occupied the position three weeks ago: The Bicycles' The Good, The Bad And The Cuddly.
Shout Out Out Out Out's Not Saying/Just Saying remains at #2. The Sadies' In Concert Volume One drops two spots to #3, followed by MSTRKRFT's The Looks, which slips down a place to #4. Bolting up nine places into the #5 position is Yo La Tengo's I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass. Chad VanGaalen's Skelliconnection jumps 10 places to land at #6. Outdoing both of those upwardly moving albums is the Hidden Cameras' Awoo, which vaults from #22 to #7. Thom Yorke's The Eraser drops two spots to #8, and Sufjan Stevens' The Avalanche also falls two notches to #9. Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped tumbles five places to #10.
The Chart Sizzler Of The Week goes to the #12 album, Mountain Goats' Get Lonely. This LP appeared on eight individual radio station charts and racked up five top 10 finishes, including #6 on CITR (UBC), #8 on both CFMU (McMaster) and CJAM (Windsor), and #10 on both CIUT (Toronto) and CJUM (Manitoba). The runner-up debut is Les Breastfeeders' Les Matins De Grands Soir at #24. The re-release of Sebadoh's Sebadoh III hits the chart at #30, Wooden Wand And The Sky High Band's Second Attention arrives at #32, Voivod's Katorz enters at #40, and Cursive's Happy Hollow follows right behind at #41.
The specialty charts saw some changes at #1, though three remain from last week. Cut Chemist's The Audience's Listening remains at the top of the Electronic chart. Art Ensemble Of Chicago's Non-Cognitive Aspects Of The City holds at the top of the Jazz/Blues chart and MSTRKRFT's The Looks is glued in place at #1 on the Electronic top 10. The other two charts saw last week's #2 albums move up to #1 in their third week on their respective charts. Ali Farka Toure's Savane grabs top spot on the World/Folk chart, while Voivod's Katorz becomes king of the Metal/Punk hill.
