Cobra Starship Awoken By Snakes On A Plane

Cobra Starship, who gained quick notoriety through their connection to the film Snakes On A Plane, are capitalizing on what could be fleeting fame by quickly releasing their debut album.
While The City Sleeps... will come out on October 10 through Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz's Decaydance label.
Though Cobra Starship only started gaining attention in the last couple of months through their "Bring It (Snakes On A Plane)" song and video, which took advantage of the film's pre-release internet buzz and appeared on the soundtrack, their Uruguay-born leader, Gabe Saporta, registered the name on a MySpace page on June 23, 2005. This is how Cobra Starship's formation is described on their MySpace site:
"During a solitary spiritual retreat in the desert, Gabe was bitten by a cobra that was sent from the future to teach him how to dance and make beats. Gabe took the skills he learned and started Cobra Starship in honor of the spacecraft that transported his savior from the future."
Saporta's first song was "Hollaback Boy," a raunchy spoof of Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl." It was followed by "Bring It," which was later reworked and adopted as the theme for Snakes On A Plane. The version of the song that appears on both the soundtrack and the forthcoming album features guest appearances by The Academy Is' William Beckett, Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy and The Sounds' Maja Ivarsson.
Saporta now lives in New York City. Once he saw that things were starting to take off with "Bring It," he quickly formed a band to perform live. Cobra Starship now includes bassist Alex Suarez and guitarist Ryland Blackinton from The Ivy League, keyboardist Elisa Schwartz and drummer Nate Navarro, who was previously employed as Armor For Sleep's drum tech.
Cobra Starship have lined up a U.S. tour for September and October, but no Canadian shows have been scheduled.
