Eminem has become a footwear designer who's created a limited-edition run of Nike's Air Max shoes to raise money for charity.

Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) will use his myriad artistic skills to design the uppers for eight shoes in the Air Max series, from the '87 to the 360, for a total of 64 pairs of costly footwear.

The shoes will be auctioned by Nike, with the proceeds being split equally between two charities: Eminem's own Marshall Mathers Foundation and Ninemillion.org. The Mathers Foundation is a non-profit corporation set up to provide funds for organizations working with troubled youth in southeast Michigan.

Ninemillion.org was founded by Nike and Microsoft and is affiliated with the UN Refugee Agency. It's part of a global campaign designed to raise awareness and funds to bring education and support programs to the world's young refugees.

"We're always looking for new ways to try to raise money and awareness for the foundation, so when Nike approached us we jumped at the chance," says Eminem on his website. "Who wouldn't want to design their own line of Nikes? And to do it for charity makes it that much better."

Sales of the shoes begin on Thursday at London, England's NikeTown, where two pairs will go on sale. Auctions will also be held in Berlin and Paris, but the majority of the rare sneakers will be auctioned on eBay on Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 3. Bidding begins at midnight on the scheduled days and ends at 11:59 p.m. seven days later.
