Killswitch Engage Turn Up The Metal On New Disc

Massachusetts-based metal act Killswitch Engage are nearing completion of their latest opus, As Daylight Dies, which will be released on Nov. 21 by Roadrunner Records.
The five-piece have been writing and recording at Zing Studios in their hometown of Westfield, with guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz handling production and mixing duties as he has on all previous Killswitch releases.
Bassist Mike D'Antonio touts As Daylight Dies (their fourth album and third for Roadrunner) as the band's heaviest effort yet. It's "fucking metal in full force," he told MTV News.
"It's definitely way heavier. There are still the melodic choruses here and there, and there's a lot to latch onto. But it's heavy."
For the follow-up to 2004's The End Of Heartache, the lads in Killswitch returned to a creative process that D'Antonio says they hadn't experienced since their sophomore disc.
"There was really hardly any thought put into it at all. It just came out and we hadn't written in so long that everyone had a lot to contribute. It felt more like the sessions for [2002's] Alive Or Just Breathing, where everyone was contributing, and everyone had a say. That is more, to me, what the Killswitch style is."
D'Antonio said the new disc will have 12 songs, including "This Is Absolution," "For You" and the title track. He also revealed that, unlike past albums, As Daylight Dies won't feature any guests.
Killswitch Engage are about to embark on a tour that will land them in Alaska, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. They're planning a headlining tour to coincide with the release of the new album, but no dates have been announced.
D'Antonio has also been keeping busy as a member of the recently reunited Overcast, which also features Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair. Their next disc, Reborn To Kill Again, is slated for a May release. D'Antonio said the band have signed to a label, but that details couldn't yet be revealed.
