Ox Deliver American Lo Fi Next Month

Ox's Mark Browning

Vancouver's Ox topped the Canadian campus radio chart with 2003's Dust Bowl Revival album, and the quartet hope for even bigger things with their forthcoming American Lo Fi album.

Weewerk will release the 11-song LP, which was recorded at Vancouver's Profile Studios, on October 17. It will be available on both CD and vinyl.

In addition to core Ox members Mark Browning (vocals, guitar), Ryan Bishops (guitar, piano, vocals), Rose Murphy (drums, vocals) and Shawn Matteson (bass, vocals), American Lo Fi features guest contributions from Be Good Tanyas, Marta Jaciubek (Girl Nobody), Trish Klein (Po'girl), Kevin Kane (Grapes Of Wrath), Jesse Zubot (Zubot & Dawson), Chon (Red Sugar) and Ken Beattie (Radiogram), who also manages Ox.

There are definite elements of Dust Bowl Revival's strong alt.country influences on the new disc, and Ox even turn Cheap Trick's "Surrender" into a loping country tune, but there's also more of a punk edge to some songs. Four tracks from American Lo Fi — "Miss Idaho," "Surrender," "Sugar Cane" and "El Camino Pt. 2" — can be heard on the group's MySpace page.

Ox will tour through the fall in support of the album. Here are their dates:
