Keane Cancels Shows As Singer Checks Into Rehab

Keane have had to postpone a number of North American tour dates because singer Tom Chaplin is being treated for drug and alcohol addiction.
The British band's tour was supposed to start on Sept. 7 in Chicago and include shows in Montreal on Sept. 19 and Toronto on Sept. 20. As of now, the group's Oct. 1 concert at Vancouver's Orpheum Theatre is still planned to go ahead.
Keane had already cancelled a number of appearances, and it was announced last week that Chaplin had been diagnosed with exhaustion. But in this Aug. 22 post on the band's website, he admitted that he had checked himself into a private clinic to deal with addictions:
"I've been having to deal with an increasing problem with drink and drugs, and the time has come to get the professional help I need to sort myself out. I feel desperately disappointed to be letting down our fans, but I want to get myself right now so that I can be back on the road for the rest of the year."
Keane, which also includes Richard Hughes and Tim Rice-Oxley, released their Hopes And Fears debut in May 2004 and played shows in support of it for 18 months. The album sold more than five million copies around the world and received a number of awards and accolades.
The group recorded its follow-up, Under The Iron Sea, last fall. It debuted at #1 on the British album sales chart following its release in June.
