MSTRKRFT Have The Looks To Top The Chart

Kick Up The Dust

Last week we looked at the trends on the top 50 chart for the past six Augusts and predicted further dominance of the incumbent #1 album. But this month is starting to take shape as a turbulent one. For the first time in a number of months, there have been three different albums at #1 for the past three weeks. Two weeks ago it was Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped (currently at #5). Last week it was The Bicycles' The Good The Bad And The Cuddly, which drops to #2 this week. And now the new #1 is MSTRKRFT's The Looks.

The biggest puddle jumper of the week is The Sadies' In Concert Volume One, which rockets up 39 places to grab the #3 slot. It's followed by Sufjan Stevens's The Avalanche, which moves up five spots to #4. Dropping three positions to #6 is Shout Out Out Out Out's Not Saying/Just Saying, while Peaches' Impeach My Bush rises a spot to #7. Oneida's Happy New Year slides down three slots to #8, while Afrodizz' Froots jumps seven places to #9. It's followed by Thom Yorke's The Eraser, which tumbles four positions to #10.

The Chart Sizzler Award goes to the phenomenal debut full-length by Blood Meridian called Kick Up The Dust. It enters at #12, beating out Andre Ethier's Secondathallum, which debuts at #22. Panurge's Walking In The Fog arrives one spot back at #23. Other notable debuts include The Golden Dogs' Big Eye Little Eye at #29, Chad VanGaalen's Skelliconnection at #33 and The Muse's Black Holes & Revelations at #41.

The specialty charts features two virgin #1s, two remaining #1s and one returning #1. October Trio's Day In takes over the top spot on the Jazz/Blues chart and the Studio One DJs, Volume 2 compilation lands at #1 on the World/Folk chart. Strapping Young Lad's The New Black remain atop the Metal/Punk top 10 and MSTRKRFT's The Looks is still dominating the Electronic chart. OK Cobra's self-titled album returns to #1 after a week's absence, as it moves up three places to top the Hip-Hop chart.
