Thom Yorke Erases Sonic Youth From The Top

The July dominance of the top 50 chart by Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped has ended as we move into the eighth month of 2006, and Thom Yorke's The Eraser slides into the top spot by squeaking in over The Bicycles' The Good The Bad And The Cuddly at #2. MSTRKRFT's The Looks lands at #3, followed by the tumbling Sonic Youth album that slips to #4.
Making a 34-place leap to #5 is Shout Out Out Out Out's Not Saying/Just Saying, which garnered some very strong support with top 10 appearances on nine campus stations. Hometown station CJSR (Edmonton) put it at #1, CHSR (Fredericton) placed it at #3, CFCR (Saskatoon) and CFUV (Victoria) both put it at #5, and there were #10 entries at CISM (Montreal), CJSF (Burnaby) and CKCU (Ottawa).
A quick look at the rest of the top of the chart shows Oneida's Happy New Year remaining at #6, Peaches' Impeach My Bush dropping three places to #7, and Vancougar's Losin' It! rising two places to #8. Feist's Open Season: Remixes & Collabs re-enters the top 10 for a third time and lands at #9, while Hylozoists' La Fin Du Monde moves up a spot to grab #10.
Jurassic 5's Feedback is the Chart Sizzler Award winner after debuting at #22, just ahead of electronic act Junior Boys' In The Morning EP at #23. Other notable new entries include Lullaby Baxter's Garden Cities Of Tomorrow at #28, Carbon Dating Service's self-titled release at #29 and White Whale's WW1 at #30.
The specialty charts show little change at the top, with only OK Cobra's eponymous release moving up two places to grab #1 on the Hip-Hop countdown. The Ready Or Not 2: Deep Jazz Grooves compilation remains at #1 on the Jazz/Blues top 10, while the Jamaica To Toronto anthology holds on to the top spot on the World/Folk chart. Strapping Young Lad's The New Black continues at #1 on the Metal/Punk top 10, as does MSTRKRFT's The Looks on the Electronic chart.
