New Releases: MSTRKRFT Finally Dole Out The Looks

After months of videos, MySpace singles and vague release promises, MSTRKRFT's The Looks debut LP hits stores this Tuesday. Al-P and Jesse F. Keeler's house/rock project has already stirred a lot of speculation that the latter won't return to Death From Above 1979, but forget about that for now. If you're having an old school rave-up at your local barn, you can spin The Looks all night.
Alien Ant Farm were best-known for a song that wasn't their own. The band shot to stardom with their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal," but spent the next few years in a consistent downward spiral. Up In The Attic is likely their last kick at the popularity can. It's out this week.
French Kicks made some noise a few years ago and rapidly gained fans while they opened for pre-Elevator Hot Hot Heat (it's like two different bands). Now they're back with a record called Two Thousand, which means they're either still obsessed with Y2K or that's the number of friends they have on MySpace. Check it our for yourself on Tuesday.
One record that actually came out last week but deserves a mention in this column is DJ Cyber-Rap's Funeral. Cyber-Rap is actually a 59-year-old widower with a runaway teenage son who apparently discovered the internet and decided to become a rapper. Though we're fairly sure (99.99999 per cent) that Cyber-Rap (a.k.a. Robert "Ronald" Marie MacDougall) doesn't actually exist, he's finagled help from Ninja High School and Laura Barrett for this unlikely release.
Here are some of the other records that will be released on Tuesday:
