Chantal Kreviazuk Has More Stories To Tell

Canadian singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk tells some Ghost Stories on her fourth full-length album, which hits stores on Aug. 29 via Sony BMG.
It's been four years since Kreviazuk's last effort, What If It All Means Something, but in the meantime the chanteuse has kept busy raising a family and writing songs for Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani.
Ghost Stories was co-written and produced by Kreviazuk's husband, Our Lady Peace crooner Raine Maida. It was recorded in the couple's home studio, which includes a Steinway Grand piano stuffed into the kitchen, and the Winnipeg native loved the set-up.
"It is like heaven," says Kreviazuk in a letter to fans on her website. "Making the first few albums in outside studios with 'outside' producers made it much more difficult to get into the comfort zone.
"There are of course certain drawbacks to being at home ALLLLL the time and with my husband ALLLLL the time (well no... that part is fine). Sometimes I feel like a bit of a hermit. The only time I get out is to walk the dogs."
Kreviazuk describes Ghost Stories as "quite rhythmic, but still so from my heart, soul and life experiences."
Those experiences include the couple's son.
"Today Rowan was yelling for me while I was recording a piano part," wrote Kreviazuk. "It ended up on the tape and we decided to keep it. So beautiful... he is just yelling, 'Mommy!'"
The first single from Ghost Stories, "All I Can Do," can currently be heard on Kreviazuk's MySpace page. The 33-year-old says that the song sets a different pace for the new album.
"I think that was just a reaction to the heart and passion I was putting into the songs. The album rocks and has a lot of rhythm, which is really exciting for me. A lot of times when people become older and wiser, they get more melancholy and reflective, and it shows in the tempo of their music. I didn't want to be harnessed by any particular tempos."
Kreviazuk, whose previous albums have combined to sell more than 600,000 copies, is currently writing for new Epic Records signing and MTV reality show star, Cheyenne.
The two-time Juno Award winner has scheduled these Canadian shows:
