New Releases: Thom Yorke Not Trying To Erase The Past

Thom Yorke

It's been just over three years since the release of Radiohead's Hail To The Thief, and the band's new record is still nowhere in sight. Guitarist Ed O'Brien recently said that all of the songs are ready, the band just have to record them. In the meantime, fans can quench their thirst with Thom Yorke's surprise solo debut, The Eraser, which comes out on Tuesday. You might expect the Nigel Godrich production to be a beats-only affair, but that isn't the case. Look for some of Yorke's most haunting melodies and lyrics on this nine-track treat.

Sufjan Stevens has been a little more prolific over the past few years, and this week releases The Avalanche, a collection of outtakes from last year's Illinois. At this point, Stevens could probably use a bit of an editor. Illinois was a scant 22 tracks, while the outtakes disc features a mere 21. It's probably not going to get people to stop asking Stevens what state comes next, but it should keep those who buy his records every year happy for 2006.

Canadian sex rocker Peaches is back with Impeach My Bush. Lest you think this is a political record, the fuzzy one insists that it's not. With titles like "Two Guys (For Every Girl)" and "Rock The Shocker," we're inclined to agree with her. You can pick up the record this Tuesday. If hardcore indie sex rock isn't up your alley, perhaps David Bowie/Radiohead-inspired Brit rock is.

Muse have been copping riffs from their favourite bands for years, and have become one of Europe's best live acts in the process. Black Holes And Revelations is their latest, and it rounds out this week's high profile releases.

Some other titles you can find in stores this week include Oneida's Happy New Year, The Adored's A New Language, Cursive's Dorothy At Forty and Lil' Flip's I Need Mine.
