The Wait Is Almost Over For Outkast's Idlewild

A few more details are leaking out about Outkast's oft-delayed Idlewild soundtrack and film, which will come out on August 22 and 25 respectively.
Lead single "Mighty O" was co-written by Antwan "Big Boi" Patton and Andre "3000" Benjamin and marks the first time since 2000's triple-platinum Stankonia album that the pair have rapped together. The soundtrack's second single will be a solo effort from Big Boi called "Morris Brown" that features Scar, Sleepy Brown and Eddie Ellis conducting the Morris Brown College Band.
The soundtrack blends hip-hop, the blues and some swing to add authenticity to the movie, which is set in the '30s. While a final track list still hasn't been confirmed, Idlewild will include: "The Train," featuring Scar and Sleepy Brown; "In Your Dreams," featuring Scar and Janelle Monae; and "Don't Chu Worry 'Bout Me (Idlewild Blues)." Three days after the album hits stores, Universal and HBO films will release the movie, which follows the lives and loves of piano-playing Percival (Andre) and speakeasy manager Rooster (Big Boi). Andre has previously appeared in Be Cool and Four Brothers, while Big Boi acted in ATL. Idlewild is the first film where the two men star together.
Action, music and dance routines will help propel the storyline, which will be filled out by characters played by Ving Rhames, Terrence Howard, Patti LaBelle, Macy Gray, Cicely Tyson, Ben Vereen and Fishbone's Angelo Moore, among others.
Idlewild was written and directed by Bryan Barber, who's making his feature film debut after previously working with OutKast on their "Hey Ya," "The Way You Move" and "The Whole World" videos. The dance numbers in the film were choreographed by three-time Tony Award winner Hinton Battle, who has worked on the musicals Chicago and The Tap Dance Kid.
The Idlewild soundtrack will be OutKast's first album since 2003's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and won three Grammy Awards, including album of the year.
