Barenaked Ladies Are Me Is Coming For You

Barenaked Ladies

If Barenaked Ladies' new album has an air of Desperation about it, it's purely intended.

Barenaked Ladies Are Me will hit store shelves on September 12 via their own Desperation Records label and Warner Music Canada.

The new record was self-produced by BNL with some engineering help from Susan Rogers, who produced their biggest international hit, 1998's Stunt. The band also teamed for the first time with engineer Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Rolling Stones) to mix the album.

In addition to CD format, the 13-song record will also be available as a digital download that will come in two forms. One version will feature the album plus two bonus tracks, and the other will be a 27-song package called Barenaked Ladies Are Me: Deluxe Edition, which will also be available in stores on a limited basis. There's no word yet from the band on what tracks will make up the deluxe version.

The new album's first single, "Easy," hits radio on July 17. It's already available for purchase on iTunes as a three-song package that includes the tracks "Wind It Up" from the new disc and "Home (Live From The Glenn Gould Theatre)."

In a unique move, BNL have made the separately recorded tracks from "Easy" available for download on their website so that fans can remix the song and send it back to them. It's the latest innovation shown by the band since they elected to go the independent route and form their own label.

"Desperation Records and Barenaked Ladies Are Me are about forging new relationships with our fanbase," says vocalist/guitarist Steven Page. "It's the fans who make our music and the lives we lead possible, so we're trying to get the music to them in innovative ways."

BNL are currently planning a fall tour and are gearing up for their sold-out, four-day "Ships And Dip" cruise that leaves Fort Lauderdale, Florida in January.
