Stompin' Tom Connors Gets His TV Special, And A DVD, After All

The CBC turned its back on Stompin' Tom Connors, but CTV has stepped in to air his first prime-time concert special, Stompin' Tom In Live Concert.

The one-hour show will premiere, appropriately, on Canada Day at 8 p.m. It will feature performances of 13 of the patriotic troubadour's favourite songs from a concert shot in high-definition at Hamilton Place last September, interviews with the 70-year-old icon and behind-the-scenes footage with some of his biggest fans.

The Stompin' Tom In Live Concert DVD, featuring even more material, will be released on July 4 by EMI Music Canada. The initial run will include an authentic used piece of wood from one of Connors' stompin' boards.

Connors has released 49 albums that have combined to sell more than three million copies in Canada. He's written two autobiographies, including the 1996 #1 best seller, Before The Fame. He's also earned six Juno Awards, The Officer's Medal in the Order Of Canada, the Governor General's Award For Performing Excellence, the National Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society Of Composers, Authors And Music Publishers Of Canada, the ceremonial keys to several Canadian cities and honourary doctorates from three universities.
