New Releases: Nelly Furtado Is Loose

After a brief affair with acoustic meanderings, Nelly Furtado has decided what she really likes: glamour and beats.
Loose, which highlights this week's new releases, is Furtado's most R&B-influenced record to date. And with it she has a new glammed up image that was featured quite prominently at Sunday night's MuchMusic Video Awards. The approach seems to be working, as the song "Maneater" has been atop the U.K. charts for the last few weeks.
Frank Black may or may not be working on the first Pixies record since 1993, but his latest solo effort hits shelves on Tuesday. Fast Man Raider Man was recorded with the same players who did Black's Back Porch debut, Honeycomb. The singer has a high-profile acoustic tour with the Foo Fighters booked for later this summer.
Keane are often called Coldplay's little brother, Coldplay lite, Coldplay without guitars, more Coldplay than Coldplay, Coldplay-ish, Coldplay-esque, a band who sound exactly like Coldplay, and Coldplay. Keane's new Coldplay-like effort is Under The Iron Sea and it's out this week.
The Hylozoists have more members of Canadian indie bands than you can shake a stick at. Paul Aucoin's (Fembots) vibraphone-led group are releasing a perfect package of indie lounge (no misprint) called La Fin Du Monde this Tuesday.
