New York Dolls Album To Come With Bonus DVD

New York Dolls

The first pressing of the New York Dolls' One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This will come with a bonus DVD and an extra track for patient fans who've been waiting for more than 30 years for a new studio album.

The 45-minute "making-of" DVD was shot and compiled by Walker Lamond, a longtime collaborator with director D.A. Pennebaker, who probably remains best known for his 1967 Bob Dylan documentary, Don't Look Back. The DVD includes candid studio moments with founding Dolls David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain, new members Steve Conte, Sami Yaffa, Brian Delaney and Brian Koonin, some of the album's guest artists and producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, The Trews).

"The only footage of the Dolls out there is from 30 years ago," Lamond told Billboard.com. "It is fun to add to the canon, but not dwell on the old stuff. It really concentrates on the current Dolls, so people looking for David Johansen in stilettos [are] not going to get it.

"The best thing about filming with David Jo [is that] you can stick a camera on him and he's always very compelling. He's one of the great wits of rock 'n' roll. The chemistry that he and Syl have together was fun to watch. They had a blast, and I wanted it to show that they were having fun, too."

The bonus track to the excellent R&B-based rock album is "17," which features a contribution from one of the band's heroes, guitar legend Bo Diddley.

The album, featuring lead single "Dance Like A Monkey," will be released by Roadrunner on July 25.
