Islands Aren't Lost At The Top

With the second season of Lost — a television show based around the exploits of plane crash survivors on a strange and mystical island — over, will the six-week run of Islands' Return To The Sea at #1 on the top 50 chart also end? Maybe, or maybe not, though there are no coincidences and there's an inter-connectedness among all occurrences in the Lost universe. The question might be: Is one of the albums in the Swan Hatch actually Return To The Sea? Lost co-star Matthew Fox is probably listening to Islands on his iPod right now. Will J'aime Tambeur be lost without his band?
The next challenger to Islands' reign is Tokyo Police Club. Their A Lesson In Crime debut moves up one spot to #2, followed by Feist's Open Season: Remixes & Collabs jumping three spots to #3. The Lovely Feathers' Hind Hind Legs moves back up one spot to # 4, with Final Fantasy's He Poos Clouds experiencing a surprising resurgence and stopping its two-week fall southward to jump up five places to grab #5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Show Your Bones drops down four spots to #6, while both Sunset Rubdown's Shut Up I Am Dreaming at #7 and Run Chico Run's Slow Action at #8 move up one place. The self-titled release from Think About Life continues to bound up the chart, moving five spots to grab #9. A former #1 album, Neko Case's Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, also shows some chart resiliency and moves up two positions to lock down #10.
After a couple of weeks hovering off the chart, Black Heart Procession's The Spell finally makes its debut at #17 to garner the Chart Sizzler Award for this week. BHP easily outdistanced runner-up Paper Cranes' eponymous album, which entered at #21. Carla Bozulich's Evangelista debuts at #23 and Pony Up's Make Love To The Judges With Your Eyes enters the chart at #29. Magneta Lane's Dancing With Daggers sits at #32 in its 12th week on the chart, beating out a trio of albums with 11 weeks' experience. One is Case's aforementioned CD. The other two are Pink Mountaintops' Axis Of Evol at #14 and Calexico's Garden Ruin at #39.
A quick spin around the specialty charts sees a repeat of last week's activity at the top. Four out of five have the same #1, and the only new #1 is on the World/Folk chart. The Coup's Pick A Bigger Weapon holds steady on the Hip-Hop chart. William Parker's Long Hidden: The Olmec Series keeps the top spot on the Jazz/Blues chart. Cannibal Corpse's Kill is growing roots at the top of the Metal/Punk top 10 and Tiga's Sexor remains firmly at #1 on the Electronic chart. Only Gecko Turner's Guapapasea! breaks the trend by jumping up four positions to take over the top slot on the World/Folk chart.
