OutKast's often delayed soundtrack and film, Idlewild, have now been scheduled for respective Aug. 22 and 25 releases.
Lead single "Mighty O," which borrows from Cab Calloway's "Minnie The Moocher," has already leaked online. The film was written and directed by Bryan Barber and revolves around a 1930s speakeasy. Patti LaBelle, Macy Gray, Fishbone's Angelo Moore, Terrence Howard, Faizon Love, Ben Vereen and Cicely Tyson are among those who also appear in the movie.
After 50 Cent made his big screen debut in last year's semi-autobiographical Get Rich Or Die Tryin', he's going to try and spread his acting wings a little further by starring in the upcoming heist flick, Live Bet.
Fiddy will also produce the movie, about underground clubs in New York City where people bet on illegal car races. But the rapper won't stop there, as he's also slated to appear in Home Of The Brave, about three soldiers who try to cope with society after returning home from Iraq, and a film about boxer Billy "The Kid" Roth called The Dance.
The Organ's Katie Sketch modeled for Marc Jacobs magazine ads last year, and apparently made such a favourable impression that Vogue has asked her to appear in photos accompanying an article about androgynous style that will be featured in its September issue.
Sketch will fly to London, England for the photo shoot and then return to Vancouver to continue working on The Organ's second album. The group will play a number of European shows in July.
CBC Radio 3's podcast, which has been ranked the top music podcast in Canada, is celebrating its first anniversary and its two millionth download with a June 2 special featuring some of the best Canadian music of the past year and birthday greetings from a variety of musicians and celebrity guests.
Fifty per cent of the podcast downloads come from outside the country, which shows how great the foreign interest in Canadian music is. Smugglers frontman Grant Lawrence hosts the weekly one-hour podcasts.
Another CBC Radio 3 property, newmusiccanada.com, streams almost 40,000 songs from more than 8,000 Canadian acts, making it the largest online collection of Canadian independent music in the world.
