Dinosaur Jr. And J Mascis Albums To Be Reissued

Dinosaur Jr. are experiencing something of a resurgence these days. Merge reissued the band's first three albums last year, and Rhino will bring back their first two major label records, Green Mind and Where You Been, on May 16.
Rhino will also release 5,000 copies of a J Mascis solo album, J Mascis Live At CBGB's: The First Acoustic Show, next week.
Green Mind came out in 1991 and Where You Been followed two years later on Seymour Stein's Sire label. Both have now been remastered and expanded to include bonus material.
Green Mind, considered by many fans and critics to be a Mascis solo record, will contain the b-sides "Turnip Farm" and "Forget It." It will also include a previously unreleased cover of the Flying Burrito Brothers' "Hot Burrito #2" that features an inexplicable vocal contribution by actor Matt Dillon.
Where You Been has been lengthened with the previously unreleased Peel session version of "Hide," as well as a live recording of "What Else Is New" and an alternate take of "Keeblin."
Both albums will be packaged with photos and new liner notes penned by music writer Byron Coley.
J Mascis Live At CBGB's was recorded in 1993 and features previously unreleased acoustic versions of several Dinosaur Jr. songs.
Dinosaur Jr.'s original lineup — Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph — reunited last year and embarked upon a successful tour. They're currently playing in the U.K.
The group are also apparently working on material for a new album, but nothing tangible has yet materialized. Barlow recently wrote on his website that "J is probably working on guitar and vocals on the 7+ songs Murph and I 'finished' in February.
"I didn't have much of a chance to write for the band and none of the songs I do have seem to fit... in many ways the 'vibe' of Dinosaur is exactly like it was 16 years ago... to assert myself on its dynamic seems an impossible task... I like collaborating, making mistakes, discussing the music etc. etc... the band is more about J's vision."
Mascis will perform solo during the Broken Social Scene-headlined festival on Toronto's Olympic Island on June 24. Bloc Party, Feist and Raising The Fawn are also on the bill.
Former Dino bassist Mike Johnson released a solo album titled Gone Out Of Your Mind via Up Records last month.
