Evanescence Return Through The Open Door

Evanescence

After nearly three years of darkness, Evanescence will return to the spotlight with The Open Door on Oct. 3.

The album was recorded in Los Angeles at The Record Plant earlier this year with producer Dave Fortman (Mudvayne, Bif Naked) and was mixed at Ocean Way Studios in March. It features the dark and melodic sound that first put Evanescence on the charts, and several tracks include a choir and strings recorded in an old chapel.

Amy Lee contributes vocals and piano alongside songwriting partner Terry Balsamo and John LeCompt on guitar, Will Boyd on bass and Rocky Gray on drums.

"The making of this record has been really intense, but I've come out feeling purified," says Lee about the Wind-Up Records release.

"After all the things we've seen over the past couple of years, beautiful and tragic, in the end I'm really grateful. It has made us create music I could not be more in love with."

After forming in Little Rock, Ark. in the late '90s, Evanescence released two EPs and an independent full-length titled Origin. Their major breakthrough came with the 2003 Wind-Up release of Fallen, which sold more than 700,000 copies in Canada and was certified gold or platinum in more than 35 countries on the strength of the hits "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal." The Grammy Award-winning group's 2004 live DVD, Anywhere But Home, has moved more than 100,000 units in Canada.
