Great Lake Swimmers Featured On New Kill Rock Stars Compilation

Past Kill Rock Stars compilations have helped introduce the world to acts like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Xiu Xiu before they became indie heroes, and the forthcoming The Sound The Hare Heard promises nothing less.
Among the buzz-worthy acts on the disc, the May 9 release will feature Toronto folk-rock band Great Lake Swimmers' "Where In The World Are You," which singer/songwriter/Swimmer Tony Dekker says "was written during an afternoon off while on tour in Nijimegen, Netherlands, and subsequently performed during the spring of 2005 tour of Europe. It had a relatively short gestation period, which is unusual for Great Lake Swimmers."
KRS owner Slim Moon picked every song on the 21-track compilation, which was titled after a Buddhist parable about a thoughtful hare, a wise lion, a fallen acorn and the end of the world.
"When I'm sifting through demos or following up on tips people give me, I always pay attention to singer/songwriter types," says Moon.
"I've always had a soft spot for them, from Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell to Elliott Smith and Joanna Newsom. This compilation is a distillation of the songwriters — well established, just starting out, or somewhere in between — who have turned me on in the new millennium."
