Loose Ends: Buble And Lavigne Certifications, Radiohead Soundtrack And Jeff Healey's Cancer Surgery

Michael Buble

If winning four Juno Awards earlier this month wasn't enough for Canadian crooner Michael Buble, he can now add some plaques to his trophy collection.

The singer's It's Time album has been certified quintuple-platinum for selling 500,000 units in Canada through March, while his self-titled record received a quadruple-platinum award. Buble's Caught In The Act DVD was certified octuple-platinum for moving 80,000 units and his Come Fly With Me DVD picked up a triple-platinum certification.

Avril Lavigne wasn't far behind Buble in CRIA's honour roll for March, as Under My Skin was certified quintuple-platinum and her My World DVD reached the septuple-platinum mark.

Metric's Live It Out and City & Colour's Sometimes were both certified gold.

Radiohead will contribute music to the soundtrack for director Richard Linklater's film, A Scanner Darkly, an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's book that's slated to hit theatres on July 7.

The movie, starring Keanu Reeves, is also expected to feature a solo song by Radiohead singer Thom Yorke.

Musician/club owner Jeff Healey underwent a successful operation to have a cancerous growth removed from his left thigh on April 12.

Healey had another sarcoma removed last May, and he's expected to recover as quickly this time as he did then. He was already up and around the day after the operation. The guitarist/horn player was born with a rare gene defect that predisposes him to cancer growth, and he lost his eyesight to a form of eye cancer when he was just one.

Healey's new It's Tight Like That album was recorded with the Jazz Wizards and Chris Barber at Toronto's Hugh's Room last summer and was recently released by Stony Plain Records. He continues to host his My Kinda Jazz radio show on Toronto's Jazz FM.

Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will rehearse for his upcoming All-Starr Band tour at Casino Rama near Orillia, Ontario in early June.

Rod Argent (The Zombies, Argent), percussionist Sheila E., Richard Marx, Billy Squier and Edgar Winter are joining the 65-year-old Starr this year. The group will play Rama on June 14 and 15.
