Pink Mountaintops And Black Mountain Stay Busy

Pink Mountaintops' Stephen McBean

Busy doesn't begin to describe the members of Vancouver's Pink Mountaintops, who just wrapped up a successful U.S. tour by opening two shows for The Flaming Lips in New York City and will soon be hitting the road again in support of their new Axis Of Evol album.

Pink Mountaintops' touring band share members Stephen McBean, Amber Webber, Joshua Wells and Christoph Hofmeister with Black Mountain, who are working on the follow-up to their 2005 self-titled debut. It's set for a 2007 release through Jagjaguwar and will likely include live favourites "Tyrants" and "Queens Will Play."

New Black Mountain material will arrive before the LP, however. A previously unreleased song called "Behind The Fall" will be featured on a Kemado Records compilation called Invaders that should be out in the next month.

A limited-edition seven-inch of two other new songs, "Stormy High" and "Voices," will be released as part of the Suicide Squeeze 2006 single series on May 9.

A 12-inch of the danceable "No Hits," including both the original version and the UNKLE remix, should be released in Europe by City Slang Records later this month. SC Distribution may make the record available in North America.

Pink Mountaintops and Black Mountain will begin a major European trek this month with Blood Meridian, Black Mountain member Matt Camarind's more country-oriented band, who have just signed with V2 in the U.S.

Pink Mountaintops are playing two shows in BC this week and will perform these Canadian concerts when they return from their European adventures:
