New Releases: Built To Spill Lead The Comeback Parade

One of indie rock's most revered acts, Built To Spill, are giving it one more kick at the can this week. You In Reverse is the band's first record since Ancient Melodies Of The Future, which came out a whopping half-decade ago. Between then and now, there's been solo records and sporadic touring, but the new record will certainly come as a relief to the band's devoted fans.

Another group who've been quiet for far too long are Pretty Girls Make Graves. The New Romance, the band's epic sophomore album, came out three years ago. They've undergone one significant change since then, losing guitarist Nathan Thelan and gaining keyboardist Leona Marrs. That accounts for a more prog-based sound on their latest effort, Elan Vital, which comes out Tuesday.

There are a couple of Canadian comebacks, too. We'll start with the ubiquitous Sam Roberts Band. Our April cover stars went to Australia and back to record their new record, Chemical City, only to watch the Montreal explosion bypass them. We'll see if they can keep reporters talking about the city when their sales are added up next week.

Brian Byrne is best known as the singer who replaced Edwin in I Mother Earth. Now he's gone solo as well. His country-tinged debut, Tuesdays, Thursdays And If It Rains, sees release this week.

Moneen made waves a few years ago by touring with every major screamo act in North America. Their rabid fanbase is likely clamouring for the release of their new record, The Red Tree. Good for them, then, that it's less than 24 hours away from hitting store shelves.

Josh Homme has been more than a little busy in the last 12 months, releasing Queens Of The Stone Age's Lullabies To Paralyze, headlining tours, playing festivals and opening for Nine Inch Nails. He got married and had a baby with The Distillers' Brody Dalle. And he still found time to drum on Death By Sexy, the sophomore release from Eagles Of Death Metal. That record is also out Tuesday.

Other releases this week include Buckcherry's 15, Calexico's Garden Ruin, Mecca Normal's The Observer, Wilderness' Vessel States and Saves The Day's Sound The Alarm.
