Neil Young Doesn't Hold Back With War Album Lyrics

Neil Young

Neil Young is posting more lyrics to his hastily recorded anti-war record on his website in advance of the album going on sale next month.

Fans can listen to all of Living With War via the site starting on April 28. The album will go on sale first as a digital download on May 2 and Reprise Records anticipates a physical version being in stores by mid-month.

According to former Reprise president Howie Klein (who claims to have heard Living With War via a personal playback from Young's manager, Elliott Roberts) on his Down With Tyranny website, the album was written and recorded in nine days following a conversation between Young and Steve Bing about the Bush administration's policies and politics. Bing is a film producer and friend of Young's who recently donated $10 million U.S. to a study of global warming.

The site also goes through the album track-by-track, giving insight into what it hails as a future Young classic. The album openly criticizes consumer culture, corrupt political agendas and religious fundamentalism, and Young makes an open call for a new president on "Looking For A Leader."

The disc touches on many aspects of how war has affected the iconic Canadian-born singer/songwriter and ends with "Roger And Out," which concludes with a 100-piece choir singing "America The Beautiful." On one of the more straightforward songs on the record, "Let's Impeach The President," Young sings, "Let's impeach the president for lying, misleading our country into war/Abusing all the power that we gave him, and shipping all our money out the door."

"You're always going to rub someone the wrong way when you sing, 'Let's Impeach The President,'" Young said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. "But that's what this country's all about — being able to express your views."

Here's the track list for Living With War, according to Down With Tyranny:

"Living With War"
"The Restless Consumer"
"Shock And Awe"
"Families"
"Flags Of Freedom"
"Let's Impeach The President"
