Scott Stapp Sued, But Drunk Airport Episode Charge Dropped

Scott Stapp

Scott Stapp has received some good news and some bad news over the past week.

Let's start with the bad.

A woman who claims to be in the video that leaked last month showing Stapp and Kid Rock enjoying the sexual services of several strippers has sued the former Creed singer for invasion of privacy. The woman, who identified herself as "Jane Doe" in the suit, said she thought that the video would remain in Stapp's private possession. But now that a clip of it has appeared on the internet and it's up to a court to decide whether the full video will be able to be sold and distributed by a company called World Wide Red Light District, the woman is seeking to have the sale of the video banned and to receive unspecified damages for emotional distress.

"For all purposes, she is the star of the females in the video," says the suit.

Stapp claims that the 1999 tape was stolen from him and that someone is trying to sabotage his career with it. So far he's won a temporary court order preventing Red Light District from distributing or promoting the video.

On the flip side, Stapp should be relieved that he won't be charged for pubic intoxication after Los Angeles lawyers said that they wouldn't pursue the matter, which arose from a February 11 incident at the Los Angeles International Airport. Stapp was arrested after causing a commotion while preparing to board a flight to his honeymoon in Hawaii. He was detained and requested a blood-alcohol test, which registered 0.18 — more than twice the legal limit in California. The vocalist was released on $250 U.S. bail.

After a meeting with Stapp, prosecutors elected not to file charges against him. That allowed the husband of the former Miss New York to continue his club tour in support of his The Great Divide solo debut that brought him to Toronto's Opera House on March 7.

Stapp released this statement on Thursday: "As many are aware, while en route to Hawaii for my honeymoon I was delayed at LAX. No charges have been filed by the L.A. county district attorney's office, and for that I am appreciative. I have said it before, but we all make mistakes, and the day will come soon enough where you no longer read of mine in the tabloids."

Say it ain't so, Scott. If it weren't for you and Pete Doperty providing us with fodder to write about, we'd have to start thinking about how dull our lives are.
