Loose Ends: Death Cab/Franz Relocate, Choclair's New LP And Nirvana Rights Up For Sale

Death Franz

Fans who missed out when tickets for the April 17 Death Cab For Cutie/Franz Ferdinand show at Toronto's Docks sold out in eight minutes now have another opportunity to attend the concert, as it has been moved to the larger Ricoh Coliseum. The Strokes will make their only scheduled Canadian appearance at the Ricoh on May 6. Tickets for that show go on sale this Saturday.

Toronto rapper Choclair expects to release his Flagship album on his own Suave Dawg Entertainment label in June. The proposed 15-track record will feature some guests, but Choclair isn't saying who they are at this point.

Courtney Love is looking to sell a portion of her rights to the Nirvana catalogue that she inherited from her late husband, Kurt Cobain, so that she doesn't have to bear so much responsibility in managing the valuable portfolio of songs. The singer/songwriter/actress has been in London, England discussing potential labels for her next album and making a television documentary.

Former Jackson 5 drummer Johnny Jackson Jr. was stabbed to death inside a Gary, Indiana home on March 1. Yolanda Davis, 44, has been charged with murder in connection with the 55-year-old's slaying. She allegedly told police that she stabbed Jackson — who's not related to the (in)famous musical brothers that he played with — with a steak knife after he lunged at her during a fight. If convicted, Davis could be imprisoned for 45 to 65 years. Tito, Marlon, Jermaine, Jackie and Randy Jackson attended the drummer's funeral on March 11. Michael and Janet didn't.

Speaking of Michael Jackson, he was ordered to shut down his Neverland Valley Ranch on March 9 for failing to pay his employees and maintain their workers' compensation insurance. California's department of industrial relations also fined Jackson $69,000 ($1,000 per employee) for letting his insurance policy lapse two months ago. A few days earlier, Jackson was cited for allegedly not paying at least 30 employees since December and was ordered to fork over $306,000 in back wages and a $100,000 fine. The 2,800-acre ranch won't be allowed to re-open until all of these matters are resolved. State officials arranged with local authorities to take care of the animals in Neverland's zoo.

Master P (real name Percy Miller) pleaded no contest to a misdemeanour gun charge on March 13 and was placed on probation for three years as part of a deal with prosecutors. The 38-year-old No Limit Records founder, rapper, Dancing With The Stars contestant and father of Lil' Romeo was arrested with his brother, Vyshonn Miller (a.k.a. rapper Silkk The Shocker), last year after their vehicle was pulled over by police. A search was made of the car and two guns were found. Both men were charged with felonies and could have been imprisoned for up to three years, but talked their way down to less severe punishment. The pair were fined $700 apiece and must perform 40 hours of community service each.
