Matt Mays Torpedoes The Competition at East Coast Music Awards

Matt Mays & El Torpedo dominated the field and claimed four trophies at the East Coast Music Awards ceremony on Monday night at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.
The band members were the recipients of the best album, rock recording, group and single awards, and they capped off the show with a performance of the prize-winning "Cocaine Cowgirl."
Joel Plaskett (male artist and songwriter for "Happen Now") and Mary Jane Lamond (female artist and roots/traditional solo recording for Storas) were the other multiple winners on the nationally televised show.
Ricky, Julian and Bubbles of the Trailer Park Boys hosted the show, which also featured musical performances by Lamond, The Chucky Danger Band, Christian "Kit" Goguen, Wintersleep, The Novaks, Sko-Shun Tiez, J.P. Cormier with Matt Andersen, George Canyon, Lennie Gallant and the cast of DRUM! Natalie MacMaster performed a musical tribute to her uncle, Buddy MacMaster, who received the Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award. Sarah McLachlan received a special achievement award in a pre-taped segment.
The pre-telecast portion of the show featured performances by Two Hours Traffic, Slowcoaster, Mark Bragg and Andrea Curry. The Trailer Park Boys provided a number of humorous segments for the broadcast, including Ricky's exchange with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, whom he initially identified as a fellow concert-goer from a 1982 Helix performance at the University Of Alberta, which was followed by a Bubbles-led chorus of "Don't Let The Country Down." Bubbles showed his musical chops again later in the show by playing the Legion hall favourite, "Liquor And Whores."
