Cat Power Stays On Top

With Canadian Music Week barreling down on us, the ChartAttack staff is fumbling to get all of our ducks in order. So without further ado, it's time to look at the charts for the week ending February 24.
For a third week in a row, Cat Power's The Greatest rules the chart at #1. Destroyer's Rubies by Dan Bejar's solo project, Destroyer, moves up one spot to #2. It's followed by Young And Sexy's Panic When You Find It, which also moves up one position to #3. Arctic Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not rockets up 16 notches to #4. Buttless Chaps' Where Night Holds Light remains at #5, while The Gossip's Standing In The Way Of Control moves up two positions to #6. Sinewave's Unity Gain comes out of nowhere (jumping up 22 places) to swoop into #7. The Diableros' You Can't Break The Strings in Our Olympic Hearts springs up from #32 last week to grab the #8 spot. In a surprise reversal in fortune, Elliott Brood's Ambassador experiences a big wallop of popularity in its 18th week on the chart. The Toronto-based trio's album moves up 23 spots to #9. Yet this isn't the highest jump, as Paper Moon's Broken Hearts Break Faster jump up 36 places to lock down the #10 spot.
The Chart Sizzler Award goes to Anagram's After Dark, which enters the chart at #23. Anagram garnered amazing support from five campus radio stations: #3 at CHRY (York); #5 at CIUT (Toronto); #8 at CFRU (Guelph); #12 at CFMU (McMaster); and #14 at CFRE (Toronto-Mississauga). The runner-up for the CSA is Sunset Rubdown's self-titled EP, which debuts at #26, while Malajube's Trompe-l'oeil comes in at #29. Other notable new entries include From Fiction's Bloodwork at #32, The Ride Theory's In This City at #39 and Half-Handed Cloud's Halos And Lassos at #43.
Even though there was an above-average level of change in the top 50 chart, this trend didn't carry over to the five specialty charts, where there were no changes in any of the #1 albums. DJ Cam's Revisited By remains atop the Electronic top 10, with Cadence Weapon's Breaking Kayfabe continuing to sit at #1 on the Hip-Hop chart. Carsick's self-titled release holds on to the top spot on the Jazz/Blues chart, while the Congotronics 2 compilation continues to be the king of the World/Folk chart. In Flames' Come Clarity repeats at #1 on the Metal/Punk chart.
