February's release calendar was exactly like the television sweeps period that it corresponds with. There were three straight weeks of excellent releases/shows, followed by one week of unmitigated silence/reruns.

There are a couple of good records coming on Tuesday. The most notable is The Buttless Chaps' Where The Night Holds Light. Of course, not that many people know the Chaps, so I'm not going to go too far into their record, except to say that it's good and you should support Canadian music, seeing as it is Canadian Music Week. Another record that's sure to get the Silverstein/Boys Night Out crowd excited is Hawthorne Heights' If Only You Were Lonely. But I don't really have much to say about that one either.Instead, in the spirit of CMW, I'd like to mention some of the Canadian releases that aren't necessarily burning up the cash registers or filling magazine pages, but whose records you should seek out.

The first is The Maynards' Break Out The Make Out. These east coasters are getting some play on CBC Radio 3 lately thanks to the fact that every single song on their LP could be a single. If you want to hear about making out with people and robots who love each other, look out for this LP.

Then there's the excellently named Brutal Knights, who recently dropped their The Pleasure Is All Thine debut. Fronted by Toronto comedian Nick Flanagan and featuring former members of The Killer Elite and Hacksaw, this record seems to be drawing comparisons in the Chart office to early Danko Jones. But some of us are more reminded of Hot Snakes. Pick up the Deranged Records release and decide for yourself.

From the west coast, there's Blood Meridian, who make a CMW appearance at Healey's on Friday night. Their Soldiers Of Christ EP is a precursor to their new record, which is coming out on V2 this spring. For those of you who don't know, Blood Meridian frontman Matt Camirand also plays bass in Black Mountain. That's all for this week. Go out this week and support Canadian music and stuff.
