Loose Ends: Buy Avril Lavigne's House, Drug Troubles For Michael And Doherty

Avril Lavigne

If you've got $599,000 lying around and need a roof over your head, Avril Lavigne has an offer for you.

The pint-sized songstress has put her house in Toronto's Cabbagetown neighbourhood on the market. The three-storey, 2,400-square-foot house at 39 Broadcast Lane features a private garage, a Jazuzzi tub, and sprinkler and alarm systems.

The house was purchased in July 2003 for $489,000 by a numbered company registered to well-known Canadian entertainment lawyer Len Glickman, who represents Lavigne. The Napanee, Ont. native no longer lives in the house, as she's shacked up with her fiance, Sum 41's Deryck Whibley, in Los Angeles' posh Bel Air district.

George Michael has admitted that he had class C drugs (which include marijuana and some amphetamines) in his possession when he was found by police slumped over the steering wheel of his car in London, England early on the morning of Feb. 26.

The 42-year-old singer was arrested, but released on bail. He must report back to police.

It would hardly seem fair to talk about British drug charges without mentioning Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty.

Doperty was arrested on Feb. 27 on suspicion of stealing a car and possessing illegal drugs. Two other men were also picked up with him in Birmingham after police received a report that a car was stolen in London.

They were all released on bail, but Doperty may finally face jail time. He was convicted of drug possession last month and was sentenced to 12 months of community service, but the judge warned him that he could end up behind bars if he broke the drug rehab requirement of his sentence.

Speaking of England, Danny Michel, Lindy and Bob Kemmis are heading there on March 13 for the Canada's Coming For Tea Tour. The three Canadian singer-songwriters have scheduled 15 shows, all of which involve them performing each other's songs and taking part in songwriters' rounds.

Mariah Carey has resurrected her singing career in the past year, but she seems to be playing with fire by making a return to the silver screen.

Her Glitter vanity project tanked at the box office in 2001, and the diva's acting was severely criticized by reviewers. That was part of her spinout that saw her have emotional problems and get bounced around by record labels before she made her recent comeback.

Carey has been cast to play a waitress who's determined to save the life of her leukemia-suffering younger brother in an independently produced drama called Tennessee. Filming is set to start this spring.
