Ashlee Simpson Was "Tipsy" During Her McDonald's Counter Dance

We acknowledge that it hasn't been an easy year-and-a-half for Ashlee Simpson. Her Saturday Night Live lip-syncing scandal made her the object of media scorn, she was booed off of the stage during her Orange Bowl performance, she collapsed in Japan due to exhaustion and — possibly the biggest blow — it was decided in the ChartAttack year-end readers' poll that her I Am Me album sucked more than anything else in 2005.
While those problems aren't necessarily common among all American girls, Simpson tries to explain just how typical she really is in the March issue of Seventeen magazine.
Among the topics discussed are her trust issues, her new boyfriend and last November's escapade in a Toronto McDonald's where she was caught on candid camera-phone dancing on the counters. She admits to being "a little tipsy" at the time, but also stated that "they definitely [edited] stuff together." Classy location aside, it's not like Simpson is the first person — celebrity or not — to make an ass of herself in public while under the influence.
"I was being a little, you know, silly and crazy that day," Simpson told Seventeen. "I was laughing and joking around and the guy behind me in line was like, 'Uh, you're gross' — but he didn't know who I was until I turned around... So then he was like, 'Can I have a picture with you?' And I was like, 'Dude, you called me gross!'"
According to the video that was widely circulated on the internet, Simpson (who didn't realize she was being caught on camera) said she wouldn't pose with him unless he kissed her feet.
Jessica Simpson's little sister said the experience made her stronger and more aware of the expectations that have been placed on her shoulders. "I feel it was a moment of growing up. Most people do that in college — mine has to be done in front of the world." Not even a month afterward, while touring in Japan, Simpson was hospitalized after collapsing from exhaustion. After recuperating at home with mom, she took a Hawaiian vacation with her boyfriend, Braxton Olita, who doubles as the guitarist of her band.
"It's scary for me to actually have a boyfriend," Simpson told Seventeen. "You give your heart up and it might be broken."The singer recently bought a new home, but has no plans to invite Olita to move in with her.
