Remaining Alice In Chains Members Reunite To Tour

Jerry Cantrell says that they're not doing it for the money, and they sure ain't doing it for CBS' Rock Star (the band turned down an offer to be part of this summer's series), but Alice In Chains are reuniting for a slew of summer gigs and maybe more.
The surviving members of the early '90s metal/grunge group played a benefit show for victims of the southern Asian tsunami in Seattle last February, which was their first show together since 1996. Various singers stood in for late frontman Layne Staley, who died in April 2002 of a lethal mixture of heroin and cocaine.
It seems that the benefit concert inspired guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney to give it another go.
"We're making it up as we go along," Cantrell told RollingStone.com. "It's what we always did in the past.
"We feel confident that we will have a good time and that it's something that will live up to the same level. We'd like to go out and play for the people that supported us and love the music as much as we have all these years. We want to celebrate what we did and the memory of our friend."
Although the band will need a singer who's able to perform their hits, Cantrell insists that AIC isn't looking to replace Staley. On the other hand, the guitarist also said they don't want to pull a Led Zeppelin and never tour together again.
"We have played with some [singers] who can actually bring it and add their own thing to it without being a Layne clone," he said.
Cantrell doesn't rule out releasing new material either, if they find the right person. But they'd do it under a different name than Alice In Chains. AIC will perform along with the likes of Dave Navarro, Duff McKagan, American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, Rufus Wainwright and Gretchen Wilson on March 10 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J. as part of VH1 Classic's Decades Rock Live tribute to Heart.
Comes With The Fall singer William DuVall will stand in as the group's vocalist for the night and he could have the inside track to fulfill that role for the upcoming tour dates.
The band have been confirmed to play Austria's NovaRock Festival on June 28 along with Metallica, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, Massive Attack and Guns N' Roses.
