Thursday Divided On New Album

New Jersey emo group Thursday have named their new album A City By The Light Divided, and it comes out May 5 on Island Records. The record was produced by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev) at his Tarbox Studios in Fredonia, New York. The follow-up to 2003's War All The Time is said to continue that disc's themes of battle and politics, particularly on a track called "We Will Overcome."
Lead Singer Geoff Rickly told Billboard.com that the song explains "how much of America's history is based in violence, and it's also about the current war going on, and the situation the country's in. It's about standing up and saying something and not to despair the state of our country, but to stick together with the people you love and have hope."
The first single from the album is called "Counting 5-4-3-2-1" and its video will be directed by Refused TV and Artificial Army. Refused TV helped the band with two videos from their last effort and Artificial Army are responsible for videos from The Mars Volta and The Locust.
Thursday will jump on the Shirts For A Cure Tour beginning on March 14 with Minus The Bear, The Number 12 Looks Like You, We're All Broken and MewithoutYou. Portions of the proceeds from the tour will go to Shirts For A Cure, an organization that helps breast cancer research through artist-specific T-shirts.
The tour has two legs and Thursday will get a Taste Of Chaos in between them. The band will play eight Canadian shows as part of the multi-act tour, which includes Deftones and labelmates Thrice.
